Daily happenings

The other day we did a Day of the week craft.  It started with a catipilar, went through the days of the week, and ended in a butterfly.  Sounds like the hungry catipilar doesn't it.  Well it is loosely following that book (since i don't have the book)

we started by making a catipilar it was a print out, first the boys colored the numbered circles the color they where told to, then we cut them out, and glued them to a piece of construction paper in the shape of a C.  Next we had the days of the week with what the catipilar ate each day.  Last we had butterfly craft, we used our hand prints to make butterflies.

Now the days of the week are conveniently on my kitchen wall, along with a little bit about what is going on that day.

N new diaper cover

N got a new diaper cover, and boy did we need one.  This is his second new one, in case you missed it, I made a Wool Diaper cover the other day by recycling a wool sweater.  This one though is from swaddlebee's.  It is blue fleece.   They had a sale and I jumped on it.  I love the color.

oh please excuse N's messy face

alphabet pretzels

On monday, we made pretzels and made our names.. E wasn't overly happy becuase he wanted to make different letters.  But I made him do his name.. Next time we will do whatever letters he wants.  lthough they were ok, I didn't really think they tasted like Pretzels.. but thought they may make good soft breadsticks with a little garlic on them.   Either way the boys really enjoyed making them, exspecially playing iwth the dough after it had risen.

Wool Soaker

In case you didn't know I cloth Diaper N.  I really like my cloth Diapers, not just becuase they are cheap (well actually they can be expensive if you buy a lot, or buy the more expensive ones)  but man they are so darn cute.

I have been short on covers recently but found some resources and this is what happened!

I made a wool soaker.   Actually I took a Wool sweater, that had shrunk, shrunk it some more and then hand sewed it to make a soaker.  These things are water proof, and breathable.  And I need Diaper covers (if you didn't already know I cloth Diaper with N)  So here is a picture of my first ever Wool Soaker.  It isn't perfect, and it needs some kind of Tie at the top.

here the soaker is lanolizing (really it is just soaking in some melted lanolin and a couple of drops of baby wash.  It will make it waterproof and clean it.

and lastly here is a sidewasy N wearing his wool soaker.

I got the idea from here
I do have one issue.. i made the leg holes a little tight, they where fine when I first put it on him, but after I attached the wrist cuffs they seem snug and while trying to stretch them I made a hole.. but I can fix that Later.  And like I said, I need elastic or a tie at top (although right now pants may be fine)

Since I can make 2 from one sweater I am going to make another.  Then with the arms I am going to make Longies.  With this Tutorial or this one

what I have learned about wool is, that it is naturally antibacterial, it doesn't need to be washed everytime it is wet, It may need to be lanolized occasionally to maintain it's asorbancy/waterproofness, It is breathable, and lastly it can be cute and sometimes cheap (if you make your own anyway.. I have learned Cloth Diapering Can be anything but cheap sometimes if you aren't carefull)

.. This is just a plain red one, I know I have a dark patern wool sweater, I think I will try making those into longies, with a red waistband.. It just depends what I can find.

So  if you have any wool sweaters that have been accidentlly shunk, let me have them I can use them!!

ECO friendly or save money

I have such a hard time wrestling with this question.  In some cases it has a very easy answer, Eco friendly.  It is easy when it comes to everyday cleaners.. I use Vinegar and other natural products.

My 2 most recent debates (in my head anyway)  where the finish cleaner that was right at a dollar and light bulbs that where under a dollar for 4.   I caved and got both.

Usually I try to by green, I like 7th generation for my dishwasher, and I buy the good light bulbs.  But I just couldnt' pass up the good deals this time.  And then I read this article about different dishwasher detergents and the problems with some of the GREEN ones.

Well let me tell you I spent a good portion of my evening cleaning off the gunk that was covering the parts at the bottom of my dishwasher, and my dishes have been down right nasty.  (just like the article said)  I really want to try the Methold since the author mentioned she liked it best (i haven't tried it), but I just have a problem spending so much more than what I could for other stuff.

Unknown territory for me is Laundry Detergent.. I made my own a few times (are you suprised probally not)  and it was eco friendly ( borax, baking something, and kirks castile bar)  but S didn't really like it.

So I guess the answer for my house, is that I will probally continue to switch between what is cheaper and what is better for the enviroment.  and that this probally wont' be the last time I spend a long amount of time cleaning out the dishwasher.

on the idea of recycle.. Check back for what I made for N with a recycled Wool Sweater!!

Changes in our household

Here we go..

We have decided that the boys can have the toys in thier room... they dont' have to be in the sunroom where I can see them anymore.

now along with this change we moved other things around

the kitchen table is now in the sunroom
(i dont' know if this will be permanent or not... i haven't decided if i like it or not)

and we brought up the couch from the basement
(that lynn and ron gave us)

here are some pictures of the process

S taking off the lader.. since they will be back in the bedroom we took off the ladder
so N couldn't climb on it

S really likes the Living room.. says it feels more like home.. but really he likes the recliner.. don't let him fool

well he did it (although he did miss the last sentence in that video).  He is so proud of himself.. adn we are very proud of him.  I had been a little worried when the teacher first sent home a letter about this, but it worked out great!!

These things can end up in the wierdest places

Super Valu trip 1-12-10

So I think I may have been looking at the super value receits wrong all along.. I think my savings have been larger than i though.. The reason I think this is becuase i always just look at the you saved amount.  Today I looked at that amount.. and then looked at the rest of my receit and realized that my coupons added up to more than that amount.. so long story short.. the you saved amount, seems to be just the amount saved on here are my totals for this trip.

and sadly even though I somehow figured out my savings this week, I only bought like four things..It may be a little more difficult if I had more things, becuase I am not sure how I figured it out.

McMamma's Not Me Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

I love these

The other day I did not let N push a chair so he could reach the pizza pockets that I (with the boys help) just made, and feed half of them to the dog.  No not I, I would not let N climb on anything.

I would not leave my drinks where said 16mth old could climb and get to it.

I would not let my 3 year and 16mth old have cookie dough, nope not at my house.. first of all they could get sick and second they would make a mess!

I would not let N climb anywhere near the stove (even when off) and "cook" himself some Cheerio's.  Nope Not I!

and lastly

I did not tape down my air vents!!  Why would I need to do that.  Thier are no kids at my house that like to take off the vents.  Nope no 16mth old here that want to see what is in there!

quaker oats coupon

this will go great with the oatmeal on sale at IGA

i may have to find ways to wrangle more of these.. we use lots of oatmeal. and for around .50 i will be getting a lot of them!

FREE Purex three in one laundry sheets

I have seen these.  And when they first came out, thier where some good coupons, but I could never find a good enough deal to justify me spending more money than I would normally (since it is ingrained that I am always trying to find ways to spend less money)

But now I can try them.  They are giving away a free Sample.  I am excited.  I love free samples.. (maybe it will come with a good coupon!!)

Sign up and see if you like it

About Me

My photo

Hi, I am a stay at home mommy who is trying to stay sane with three very mischievous little boys, who are the light of my life. Oh, I also have a husband that I adore. I have recently started a weight loss journey (again). I do like good deals, but have not been as active as I use to be in couponing.. and lastly I am a flybaby who hasn't been flittering very well recently, but I am still trying.
